Your Child's Development

Watching our children grow and develop new skills is one of the most rewarding parts of being a parent! But they grow so quickly and change so much! What should our children be doing and when?

Learning about ages and stages of typical development can help parents better anticipate, then guide children more successfully and confidently, through each developmental stage. Please keep in mind that even though there are typical patterns of development, actual timelines will vary for each child.

Development is not a steady even climb, but is filled with periods of bursts in growth, sometimes regressions, and at times, plateaus. Ask any parent---we all have our stories to tell! What we have learned is that it is during some of those most challenging times that our children are in a period of gaining new skills and growing!!

This section offers parents information about typical development and tips to better handle some of the issues that surface during each particular stage.

PAL wants to encourage and support you in becoming a more confident parent. Let's face it…when babies are born, they don't come with "instructions!" With today's stresses and problems we all just need a little help. PAL is designed to provide helpful assistance and information to moms, dads, grandparents, and relatives whose children are ages birth to twelve.

For more information please call PAL at 1-866-962-3030. A Parent Resource Specialist will be happy to talk with you. Calls are free and confidential.

Sometimes "talking it out" can help us not "take it out" on our children.
